About Zozo

Zozo is educated in South Africa in traditional South African Afro-fusion dance and later further trained in contemporary dance in Denmark at the School of Modern Dance (Den Danske Scenekunstskole).

Experience two up-and-coming artists in folk music and join us on a unique journey into the sounds of the North and its modern interpretations when Polenta and Justine Boesen visit Union on August 5.

The audience will have the opportunity to hear Justine Boesen's present and intimate solo set for accordion and soprano vocals, and they will be able to hear the Finnish quartet Polenta and enjoy their swinging and powerful concert set carried forward by Finnish violin music. At the end of the concert, you will hear all five musicians in close interaction and harmony.

Born in Cabo Frio into a family of musicians, Julia Vargas is a singer, songwriter, and percussionist acclaimed for the depth and sensitivity of her artistry. Her career features collaborations with renowned Brazilian artists such as Milton Nascimento, Zélia Duncan, and Ivan Lins. Her album “Pop Banana” and upcoming release “D’Água” showcase her unique musical vision. 

The Oslo based singer and producer made a name for herself performing at numerous festivals such as Oya, Trondheim Calling and on several occasions at Copenhagen and Oslo’s Jazz Festivals. Now she will visit Union and Copenhagen with her experienced and playfull band.

ForróNovo

ForróNovo is Copenhagen's very own forró trio, led by Brazilian singer and songwriter Arthus Fochi. The band builds on the rich tradition of Brazilian forró, but adds a modern touch with improvisation and subtle elements from jazz and folk. The result is a fresh yet deeply rooted sound.

Aleteos

Aleteos is a duo from El Carmen de Viboral in Colombia, formed in 2015, that conveys the sound of Colombia's musical traditions and the folkloric roots from all over Latin America. With a rich instrumentation of string instruments, percussion and two voices in harmonious interaction, they create a poetic and sensual universe.

Singer and researcher Priscilla Barbosa delves into the overlooked stories of black Brazilian women in music. Through an anti-racist and feminist approach, we gain insight into the lives and works of singers and composers who have fought against structural racism and created music despite marginalization and invisibility.

Sonamos Latinoamerica is a framework where the past, present and future of Latin American folk music will meet and mix.

Together with her two guitarists, Maia Castro presents music from the Río de la Plata region (Uruguay and Argentina), where tango, milonga, zamba and other folk rhythms meet in a warm and intense musical experience. The repertoire includes works by masters such as Zitarrosa, Gardel, Mastra, as well as her own compositions.

The Peruvian singer and songwriter Gaddafi Núñez presents an intimate and atmospheric program, where music and literature merge in a poetic encounter.

Sonamos Latinoamerica is a framework where the past, present and future of Latin American folk music will meet and mix.

Over the course of 4 days, you can experience music from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Peru. In addition to the concerts, the program offers a talk about women in Brazilian music, a memorial for the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano, and an afternoon where dance will be in focus.
