UnderTonen

An online radio channel and a community platform where underrepresented voices are heard based on hip hop.

Over time, hip-hop has taken its place as the largest and most influential music genre and popular culture in Denmark and the world. Still, there is a huge void in public service coverage and understanding of the influence of culture and genre on young people here at home. That is why the association UnderTonen has established hip-hop radio in Union's Broadcast studios.

The channel goes in depth with the sound and text universe of hip-hop music in all corners of Denmark and around the world. From the mainstream to the urban, the underground and the experimental. There will be airplay for dancehall, French rap, Danish rap, grime, drill, baile funk, reggaeton and other sub-genres, based on what the young people listen to and are inspired by.

It is young people between the ages of 15-30 who must develop and design the community radio. Hip hop gives a voice to young people on the edge, vulnerable, desperate, lonely and powerless. Stories and issues we shed too little light at home. They must feel that they have a platform where they have influence and ownership in a debate from which they are often excluded.

The radio can act as a mouthpiece to and from young people who, for one reason or another, are not, or feel, part of the 'established' society.
