Copenhagen Sprint: Slow Zone in Union

Get your heart rate down in the middle of the hectic cycling rush.

In the midst of the pulse of the Copenhagen Sprint, Union invites you into a completely different rhythm. In the backyard we open the Slow Zone – a free space where the pace slows down, shoulders drop, and there is room for both breaks and presence.

Here, riders, fans and curious guests can retreat from the intensity of the race and land in an atmosphere of music, movement and community. Hammocks sway in the yard, the smell of food spreads from the kitchen, and the sound of swing, rap and drums fills the air.

The program moves from freestyle rap and colorful parades to live jazz and swing dance, where everyone can join in – regardless of whether you want to dance, listen or just sit back.

Wombattles

Wombattles comes to Copenhagen Sprint with an energetic freestyle show, where words, humor and quick reactions are the focus. The audience can look forward to an entertaining experience where improvisation and creativity merge on stage.

The show features some of the strongest profiles in Danish freestyle rap: DR T, Martine, Jager and Norup. Together they create a dynamic atmosphere, where the audience is often involved, and where no performance is the same. The rhymes arise in the moment, and the battles develop spontaneously with sharp punchlines and lots of laughter.

Hepcats

Kulturhuset Union and Danseforeningen Hepcats Copenhagen offer the jazz dance swing dance in Union's Slow Zone. The music is cheerful and the feet can't stand still! The program begins with a half-hour lesson, so everyone can join in, followed by a small show with the city's best swing dancers. Then the dance floor is free, meaning everyone just dances. The association's DJs will provide the music at the beginning, and then there will be live music with some of the city's best jazz bands.

  • Saturday: Dusty Rag Jazz Band
  • Sunday: Nomad Cats

Dusty Rag Jazz Band

Dusty Rag Jazz Band started in 2015, when a group of friends wanted to bring New Orleans' street music to the streets and parks of Copenhagen; with a warm, direct sound and unpretentious stage performance, the infectious energy, joy and curious improvisation that has become the band's hallmark is created. The repertoire primarily consists of traditional jazz numbers with blues and folk roots from 1900s America, as well as their own compositions.

Nomad Cats

Nomad Cats delivers tight, swinging jazz with a burning love for tradition and a presence that is felt throughout the hall. With roots in the American ballrooms of the 30s, the band combines bubbling uptempo numbers and atmospheric ballads, where melodies and improvisations breathe freely.

Jesper Løvdal's saxophone playing sends clear greetings to masters like Hawkins, Lockjaw and Griffin, Andreas Ugorskij sweats through his Django Reinhardt-inspired playing, while the band's swing, energy and joy of playing get both feet and smiles moving. Chalk the dancing shoes – Nomad Cats is on its way.

Candombe

Candombe is a South American culture that originally originated in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is primarily related to drumming and has had a significant role in the culture of the Río de la Plata for the last two hundred years, and has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Prepare for a meeting between traditions and rhythm when Candombe DK parades from Sankt Hans Torv to Unions garden to the delight of both the cyclists of the folk race and cheering guests.
