Oaxaca Festival
Oaxaca is a state in southern Mexico roughly twice the size of Denmark – with eight regions, countless traditions and a culture that's hard to put into words. For two days, Oaxaca’s culture is coming to Union. Free entry!
Carl Emmerik Rohde is an artist and DJ, played and exposed in Oaxaca, and now he wants to share Oaxaca’s culture with Copenhagen. Together with Casa Bestia, a cultural house in Oaxaca, and a group of artists, craftspeople and even a mezcal producer from Oaxaca, he has put together an experience that will allow you to truly feel and live Oaxaca’s culture with all your senses.
In the courtyard, an exhibition opens with Oaxacan textiles, graphics and engravings. You can join workshops in screen printing (serigrafi), linocut (engraving), embroidery or building a marmota – the colourful paper lanterns from Oaxaca's festival streets. No experience needed and all ages are welcome!
From the grill comes the traditional carne asada accompanied by delicious Mexican vegetarian dishes. The culinary experience continues with mezcal tasting served by the producer himself.
At the Zapoteca craft market, you will discover a colorful world of handwoven featured rugs, jewellery and alebrijes figurines, each showcasing the artistry and rich heritage of Oaxaca’s indigenous communities.
DJ CAAARL takes care of the music, joined by other DJs. Experience traditional dance on both days, and join the communal dance "Baile de la Piña" on Sunday!
