Cumbiasound - Cumbión de Muertos
Cumbiasound is a musical journey rooted in Colombian cumbia – but from there, anything goes. Classic cumbia and Peruvian chicha meet reggae, afrobeat, funk, soul, hip hop, Balkan and jazz in an organic and vibrant sound, where the Latin American roots remain firmly at its core.
At the heart of Cumbiasound is Swedish musician Daniel Fridell, who for more than a decade has explored the many possibilities of cumbia without losing touch with its traditional rhythms. The music draws on the Afro-Colombian heritage of Palenque and bullerengue, among other influences, and over the years Cumbiasound has collaborated with musicians from both Latin America and Africa.
This is music to dance to, music to celebrate life with – but also music that leaves room for resistance, freedom and the struggle for a better world.
Since 2011, Cumbiasound has been part of the international Latin alternative scene, releasing a wide range of EPs, singles and vinyl records. In 2023, the band explored the Afro-Colombian rhythm of bullerengue with Lucho Mucho, while 2024 brought the more atmospheric, Amazon-inspired album Amazonas. In 2025, they continued their musical journey through international collaborations and new vinyl releases.
For Cumbión de Muertos, Cumbiasound brings their vibrant blend of cumbia, chicha and Afro-Latin American rhythms to Union. Expect an evening where tradition meets the present, where the boundaries between Colombia, Africa and the rest of the world become fluid – and where the dance floor gets to do the talking.

About Day of the Dead and Cumbión de Muertos at Union
Come dance with death as we invite you to a Mexican celebration at Union. This year, we're expanding the festivities into a full weekend edition with two days of cumbia, mezcal, skulls and flowers.
We celebrate Day of the Dead at Union every year, and in 2026 we're making it a weekend edition: two nights of cumbia rhythms, celebration and community!
- 30 October: Cumbiasound
- 31 October: Trypical Cumbia
Death is part of life. Yet we spend an enormous amount of energy trying to resist, fear and repress it. Perhaps we should embrace it a little more – and try to understand why it evokes such powerful feelings?
