ACCT Anti-Racism Conference

Crossing Borders and Union are hosting a dynamic conference to showcase the work being done in the field of anti-racism through speeches, panel talks, and live performances.

This gathering will serve as a platform to highlight initiatives, share best practices, and strengthen our collective efforts to combat racism. Additionally, we will share the results of the EU-funded Anti-Racism and Civic Courage Training (ACCT).

Through keynote speeches, panel discussions and creative performances in dance, rap, and theater we will demonstrate the work that Union members are doing to actively dismantle and change racist systems, structures, and attitudes at the local and national levels, and beyond.

About the Performances

Suzanne Sofia Potempa

Suzanne Sofia Potempa is deeply engaged in Middle Eastern culture in her daily life. During the day, Suzanne works with "health, training, and integration" for vulnerable disadvantaged Muslim immigrants and refugee women. The results she has achieved are so outstanding that they have been used in research at the University of Copenhagen and in the Nordic countries. Later in the day, she teaches belly dancing at her dance school, "School for Oriental Dance."

She loves the feeling of expressing music through her body, conveying the culture of dance, and teaching its diverse and beautiful movements. Suzanne is passionate and constantly evolving. Therefore, she is also active in both large and small cultural activities, national and international, that represent the culture through belly dancing and music.

Blinkered

Blinkered is a piece that invites the audience to listen, see and challenge their biases through an array of narratives. It breaks down the single story told about Africa while suggesting a humane alternative to the prevailing stereotypes.

Creation Team: Wanjiku Victoria Seest, Gathoni wa Wairura, Kibby Kenneth and Delia Trice. Written by Gathoni wa Wairura and Wanjiku Victoria Seest. Performed by Wanjiku Victoria Seest.

Fire Raka

Fire Raka aka Kaka is best known for his lightning-fast machine gun flow, or as Politikken wrote it "The sharpest dancehall tongue". This is evident, among other things, in the hit numbers "Giv mig et Smil" - "Reggaejam" and "Danish dancehall" - the latter two appeared on his debut EP 'KAKA EP'.
